Episode 29 - I Know Enough Mimbari, and That Is Kind Of Sad...

Yes, really, we all still exist. Seriously. So much has happened since we got together a little over a year ago. Several countries have new leaders, and Steve Jobs, on of the icons of tech, died. What do these things have in common? Leadership. So yeah, that was our topic. Robin is writing a book on leadership, so he told us about his ideas, they include the notion that leadership is different from managerial ability, and a lot of what we think of as leadership is just being a good manager. We talked Steve Jobs, Jim Kirk, Jean Luc Picard, and of course Gordon Ramsay... We hope you enjoy episode 29.

Just to clarify, I'm not actually writing a book on leadership, only a couple of chapters for my book about my time in Africa.

Just to clarify: I know no Mimbari. And I am diminished by the lack. ;)

I am pretty pleased with this episode, even with my mistake about Robin's book in the blog post.....

Yay! A whole new Tangential Convergence!

I'd disagree slightly with Robin on whether charisma is leadership--I'd say it's necessary, but not sufficient, that if the charisma is not backed up by success (which requires vision and drive and competence), followers will drop away. (Of course, if someone fails spectacularly--i.e. Custer--it hardly matters, since he and/or his followers will be dead. Although a great deal of havoc can result en route.)

Great subject!
